Common Reference String (CRS)

Common Reference String is a common set of parameters that is drawn from some specified distribution and all the participants have access to it.

There are two main flavors of CRS:

  • Common Random String: It is just a uniformly distributed string.
  • General Common Reference String: It may have an arbitrary distribution.

The use of a Common Reference String is fundamental in cryptographic protocols as it ensures a consistent and shared basis for cryptographic operations among all involved parties. It plays a crucial role in maintaining security and coherence in various cryptographic applications.
